essential shift

Back To School

I am officially enrolled in College Of DuPage. Today I learned quite a bit about the history of the school including the fact that it has had a few celebrities graduate from there including John and Jim Belushi and Marisol Nichols of the TV show “24″ and National Lampoons: Vegas Vacation. Aside from that I am very excited about going back to school, my major is Graphic design (of course). I am starting out with 12 credit hours (four classes), which include:

  • Graphic Design
  • English
  • Speech
  • Religious Studies: intro to OT
  • They are all basic classes so I can get back into the whole “school thing”. All that is left is to get all my books and school supplies.

When you guys get a chance, say a little prayer for me. Just pray that I stay motivated with this and I don’t get overwhelmed, I have a tendency to do both of those things.

Oh and I found a school supply list of things I will need.

  • Glue sticks – 2
  • Clear tape – 1 roll
  • Plain, white printer paper – 1 every few months
  • Composition notebook – 1
  • Tissues – 1 large box
  • Pencils – 1 package (wide shafts are best)
  • Crayons – 1 box of 12
  • Markers – 1 small package of 6 or 8
  • Colored pencils – 1 package of 12
  • Lined paper – 1 package
  • Pencil case – 1
  • Backpack – 1
  • Lunch bag – 1

hehehe … it was the “Tissues - 1 large box” that gave it away!! I’d almost believe most of the other things … well, maybe not the crayons ;-)

As for the Trapper Keeper, have you checked Staples? How about eBay?

Good luck with that Nick. You’ve picked some interesting lessons actually, I am sure you’ll enjoy going to them. From what I know of you all of them, well near enough all of them are of interest you so that will help you a lot to stay motivated.

You certainly seem prepared and know what you need! Good luck with it all, I hope it all goes well for you!

P.S. I really like the new header, the crumpled/creased effect in the background is brilliant. You’ve a real talent!

Lacey, awesome I will have to check it out! how cool would it be if I showed up to my first day of school with a good old fashioned Trapper Keeper?!

Aidan, I am excited about all of them. I wanted to take a speech class to help me out with speaking n front of people. As an elder of my church now, I will have to do sermons every now and then. And thanks for the compliments.

Ahh right I see, that makes sense. It always helps to be able to have the confidence to talk in front of people. I can, but I do struggle a lot, I wish I had something like that available to me! I probably do somewhere, but I just haven’t come across it yet, but it would be useful for anyone in my opinion.

    Hey Nick,
Cool! You will do great! I’m proud of you! I know what you mean about staying focused. You have a great wife (my daughter…LOL) that will support you. Steven

Hehehe! I am laughing hysterically about the Trapper Keeeper! Be sure to have Jenny take a photo of your first day at school, w/ your backpack, Trapper Keeper, and crayons!
Seriously, I am so proud of you!!! And of course, will be praying for you…I understand the motivation/overwhelment factor as I have that myself.
    Blessings,
    Barb

Nick, here is a quote that might be helpful to you.

“Inspiration comes forth from within. It’s what the light burning within you
is about, as opposed to motivation, which is doing it because if you don’t
do it, there will be negative repercussions. Motivation is making myself do
something that I don’t really want to do. Inspiration is having the clear
picture of what I am wanting — and letting Universal forces come into play
    to get the outcome.”

I took 3 out of the 4 classes you are taking at COD. They aren’t bad. Religious studies becomes tedious. I’m excited for ya.
