Show and Tell

I am starting to work on the sermon I will be giving later this month, at least I think it’s later this month next month. And by “starting to work on” I mean, I am tossing around some ideas on how I am going to do it.

I have decided to do the sermon on how Jesus himself was missional, and let me tell you it is a lot harder than I originally thought it would be. I have absolutely zero formal training in preaching so this is totally new to me. I don’t know how I should prepare for it. Do I write it like I would a speech, should I include a power point with it? I know I shouldn’t freak out about this, I have so many people that are here to help me with this.

Aside from me freaking out, I am very excited. I feel like I am doing what God wants me to do. God has given me a passion, a passion to go into the community and share the love of God. He has given me a passion to get up out of the pew and be the [C]hurch instead of just waiting for others to come to the [c]hurch. And now I have the opportunity to share that passion with the rest of the church. I get to share how Jesus himself showed us exactly how to be missional. I am so happy I am going to be doing this. I just pray that I am able to do it in such a way that they will hear and understand. I want to see the church move forward, I want to see their fear fade away. God wants us to all be missionaries, every last one of us.

My next step is to ask questions. I will be asking a lot of questions to my pastors and my brother, I figure they will be able to point me in the right direction. I any of you out there are pastors or have experience preaching, you help would be much appreciated as well.

Your blog looks different again! I like it…I know you will do great. I can’t wait to hear you up there! I encourage you to seek out exactly what Jesus wants you to say…What a better example then jesus being missional!

If you have the hardware accommodations, I would suggest including a powerpoint presentation. Many people learn things easier if it involves more of their senses; not to mention it might make it a little less stressful for you knowing that not all eyes are on you.

Cool, thanks Scott. I think I will.
