A Happy Medium: A Re-Post

“It’s more important to be a Christian than to be a conservative or a liberal,” - Darrell Bock

A friend sent me this article today and it got me thinking about faith and politics, should they mix? I used to say yes, without a doubt, if you go back through this blog you will see a great deal of posts on that subject. However, over the past few months I have been changing my mind. I used to think that I am Republican because I am Christian, and I need to shout it from the roof tops. I used to think it went hand in hand, politics and religion, but I am now learning it shouldn’t be that way.

Yes our faith will inevitably direct the way we will vote, there is no getting around that. But I think it is wrong to use religion as a political platform. I know I may get beaten for what I am about to say but, I think James Dobson just might be wrong. We should not be using our faith in Jesus Christ to tell people who to vote for. Christ is our focal point not John McCain or Barack Obama. After all don’t you think Jesus would have gone for more of a theocracy opposed to a democracy?

I guess I think we could just find something of a happy medium. This coming from a guy whose blog name is “The Christian Right America”, who would have thought?

Do We Believe: A Short Thought

Do we really believe what we say we believe?

Do we believe that God came to earth in the form of man just because he loves us? Do we believe that Jesus and ate and drank with thieves and prostitutes? Do we believe that Jesus walked into the hands of the enemy. Do we believe that Jesus willingly offered himself to be beaten from an inch of his life, spat upon, hair ripped from his face and head, all to the point that he was no longer recognizable? Do we believe that Jesus carried his own cross and let men drive nails through his feet and hands, and then raised on the cross. Do we believe that he hung there being mocked and sworn at until he died. Do we believe that he did all this just because he loved every last one of us, including those who hammered the nails and spat on him? And do we believe that this is the man that every last one of us is to strive to be like?

Get Saved [dot] Com

I don’t know what I think about this site that I found yet, wait yes I do.

It’s called Get Saved Dot Com, and it starts out unlike any other any other Christian website that tries to convert you, at least that I have seen.

It gives a very good message that most people skip over. It says that God loves you no matter what, if you are gay, straight, a smoker, an alcoholic, a criminal, an adulterer, a liar, whatever it may be God loves you. And this is about where it ends for me. While this is the right message, should it be a computer telling you this? I fear that Christians will use this, just like the use those cheesy forward emails. They see this as a way to avoid having to get dirty themselves. They can sit back in their office chair and feel good that “they” just shared the gospel with someone.

This takes all pressure off of us, we don’t need to think about anything after we hit send. We have become chickens. Are we that afraid of non-Christians that we have to send them to a website to do the job God called US to do? We care too much about ourselves and how we feel, and not enough about those who truly need to SEE Gods love through us. Yes God does love them no matter what, he always has and he always will, but I believe that we have the duty to share that with them personally, face to face and not some third party website.

I am so glad that someone loves the lord that much that they created a site devoted to sharing the gospel, however, I am afraid they are going about it the wrong way. I just want to see people doing this on their own. I don’t want to see anymore emails that just get thrown into the spam pile, or links to websites that don’t allow people to see the person behind it and ask questions. It’s just so easy for us to say “God loves you”, but how much more of an impact would it make if we actually would show them how much he loves them. That would make all the difference.

Please, Re-Subscribe

Now that the dust is cleared and all is settled in here at Essential Shift, I am going to kick up the dust again. When I was over at TCRA I used Mint for all of my stats and such. Now Mint was a great little piece of equipment, but I did not feel like handing over another $30 just to get it for this site as well. So I am using the free stuff again. I am going with Wordpress stat counter and Feedbuner.

I believe I have my old feed forwarded over there so you may not have to do anything right now, but if you are not getting any updates and you really want to, please re-subscribe by clicking here.

I know this was a lame post but oh well, I needed to let y’all know. Have a great rest of the day, and please let me know if you are having problems with the feed.
